In Poland, Dachshunds Get The Parade They Deserve [Video]

In Poland, Dachshunds Get The Parade They Deserve

"It's not everyday you see 300 Dachshunds parade down the street in fancy dress," asserts the description on this video. True enough. But here dachshund owners in Poland display an imaginative and creative yen for putting their dogs in costumes of all varieties. I don't want to give anything away, but there are definitely one or two fake moustaches.

Oddly enough, these dogs don't have the same existential sadness in the eyes that actual show pets do. Clearly even dogs know the difference between the goofiness of Halloween and the bone-crushing solemnity of a beauty pageant.

Miliband attacks union boss on pay

The Labour leader sought to use the row with Len McCluskey - general secretary of Labour's biggest union donor Unite - to show that the movement is not "pulling our strings".

He issued a strongly-worded put-down as the party gathered for its autumn conference in Manchester, two years on from Mr Miliband's surprise leadership election victory in the city with the help of union votes.

Mr McCluskey used an eve-of-conference interview with the Sunday Times to set out his plans to "kick the New Labour cuckoos out of our nest" and win back the party for the trade union movement.

And he warned that his members were "furious" with the Labour leadership's "crazy" policy of supporting pay restraint.

Mr Miliband, who is battling to improve personal poll ratings and shake off his "Red Ed" tag, told BBC1's Andrew Marr Show: "It's not going very well for him is it?

"You can't say at one and the same time that Len McCluskey is saying 'you're wrong on pay restraint' and then say we're giving in to him and he is pulling our strings."

Asked about the pay freeze, he said: "He is entitled to his view but he is wrong.

"We've got the right policy to say we put jobs in the public sector ahead of pay rises. That's what we said we would do this parliament. It is a difficult decision but it is the way to keep jobs in the public sector."

Mr Miliband said Labour would reverse the coalition's cut in the top rate of tax from 50p to 45p "if there was an election tomorrow".

QE Infinity 1.0 Update: Apple, Bonds, Dollar, Gold, Google, Real Estate, Stocks!

QEternity!

Google Soars, Gold Up, Dollar Rallies!

This isn?t over. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is now being called a Kamikaze pilot! David Stockman said the Federal Reserve and central banks are the fundamental threat to the economy. September 13, 2012 was the American Day of Infamy and the death knell of the American Dream. The Federal Reserve announced indefinite quantitative easing, QEternity, plus a zero-interest rate environment extended through mid-2015.

Quantitative easing is an addictive drug. Is the current injection enough? Already there is talk of more QE! Would this be QE Infinity 2.0? How long can this addiction continue? The answer is as long as the U.S. Dollar is the world?s reserve currency -or- the Great American Sovereign Debt Default occurs.

An economic globalization approved by the USA 2-party political dictatorship and funded by the Wall Street Banksters precludes a sound internal USA economic policy and structure. Yet we continue voting for the same empty promises offered by both parties over and over as if this next time will be different. Albert Einstein called this insanity: ?doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?.

The economy itself has fundamentally changed with cheap human labor outsourced abroad (suicide nets and police state control expenses paid for by the slaves via subsistence pay) and rapidly expanding automation (rise of the machines) implemented domestically. The downward spiral from higher paying production jobs to lower paying service jobs to ultimate obsolescence continues for Americans.

Therefore, the Federal Reserve will flood the world with U.S. Dollars, Congress will run budget deficits and borrow more money, interest rates will remain artificially low lest the insolvency of America be revealed by skyrocketing debt service, and the Fed will continue expanding the central bank balance sheet until the bluff is called. Follow along with the Fed Hail Mary, indefinite quantitative easing, as I periodically monitor the value of selected assets in the new QE Infinity Economy.

Michelle Obama's Popular DNC Dress Out in December

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I just got some shocking news. His father -- age 81 -- is leaving his wife of 60 years! Mom is not entirely self-sufficient and seems dependent on him.Dad found himself a younger woman -- a "chick" of 70. He has announced that he still has sexual needs and wants to enjoy the rest of his life. My husband thinks it will be a short-term fling and he'll return to Mom, but she says she won't be taking him back. (Who knows how she'll feel later?)My problem is, no matter what happens between them, I'm having a hard time even considering forgiving him for his selfishness. ...

Calif. signs bills to boost social network privacy

(AP) ? California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a pair of privacy bills making it illegal for employers and colleges to demand access to social media accounts.

Brown announced on Thursday that he signed AB1844 by Assemblywoman Nora Campos, a Democrat from San Jose. The bill prohibits employers from demanding user names and passwords from employees and job applicants.

The restriction does not apply to passwords or information used on employer-issued electronic devices.

The governor also signed SB1349 by Sen. Leland Yee, a Democrat from San Francisco. The companion bill makes it illegal for colleges and universities to demand social media user names and passwords from students and prospective students.

Brown announced the bills via Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus. He says the legislation will protect Californians from "unwarranted invasions."

On Choosing Domain Names That Is Good For Business ...

Filed Under Category investment business ideas by admin

Now is the age of the broadband, and those who still wonder what this means will much likely find it hard to become successful in these times. The internet hasn?t only invaded all aspects of our personal lives, it has furthermore permeated the entire business world-and any business that truly wants to get ahead in the 21st century has got to have a well thought out, dynamic online plan. A key part of any business plan these days involves setting up a highly visible website that piques web-viewers? interest and creates an immediate, very strong corporate identity. Though the technical aspects of designing such a website are challenging and deserve a lot of attention-the topic of many other articles out there, no doubt-the first step towards creating such a site entails making a wise domain name choice.

There are many options to choose from when considering what to call your website and yet there are only likely to be a few good options, which is why it is so crucial to really give the matter some thought. In most cases, business domain names are simple recreations of the actual business name and this is usually a smart idea; however, there are times when such domain name is already being used by another business or entity, or it might be that the business name does not really convey a strong message and thus could not be a good name to use in a website. In such instances, you can still avail of other options.

One option is to use domain names that describes the field of work the particular company is involved in. When you make use of this option, you must remember to keep the name short and sweet ? nobody remembers a domain name that is as long as one whole sentence ? otherwise no one will visit your site. Another alternative is to keep the business name within the domain and to include an extra word or two at the beginning or end of the name, thereby getting around the problem of availability and keeping a strong corporate identity in the website address.

Once a business has come up with a catchy, highly identifiable name for their website it is a good idea to go ahead and buy up other domain names that sound very much like it and have those secondary sites automatically forward to the intended site. By doing this, a business can gain much advantage from their corporate online identity and can also prevent other businesses/sites from robbing it of its glory. In this same vein, when buying domains it is a good idea to go ahead and pay for several years? worth of registration: this is not only a good way to save money (as always, the more you buy the better the deal) but it makes it less likely that your main site or one of your alternative-spelling sites will fall into someone else?s hands because you forgot to renew on time.

Extreme Japanese Body Art | Bagel Head | Stuff.co.nz

Japanese body art has been taken to a whole new extreme with the emergence of the "bagel head".

The bizarre new trend is created by injecting saline into the forehead until it swells up, then pressing the centre of the swollen area with a thumb giving it a bagel-like hole.

Body art fans bored with piercings and tattoos are then left with a large swelling resembling the doughnut-shaped bread on their head.

The process takes two hours to complete, but results last for just 16-24 hours as the body absorbs the saline and the forehead returns to its normal size.

A clip from the National Geographic programme, Taboo, shows three body art enthusiasts attached to saline drips inserted into their foreheads.

One customer said he felt a "relaxing sensation" as his forehead started to swell.

After his "bagel head" transformation was complete the man smiled and said: "Oh sweet buttery bagels ... I look delicious."

The man responsible for bringing the look to Japan, photographer and journalist Ryoichi "Keroppy" Maeda, told Vice magazine he had come across it at an extreme body modification convention in Canada.

"I happened to meet Jerome, who was the person who pioneered saline infusions.

"I experienced saline with him in 2003 and he gave me permission to bring it to Japan, so I set up a team in Tokyo to administer infusions for other people."

Keroppy said fans of the infusions attend "saline parties" held twice a year, and others wear their "bagel head" to clubs and fetish parties.

Saline injections could be performed on any part of the body, he said.

"You can inject it anywhere you want ... sometimes we do scrotal infusions as well."

But Keroppy said "bagel heads" were not the most extreme trend in the Japanese body art scene.

"There are practices that are far more extreme, for example, ear pointing, navel removal, amputation, Japanese traditional body suit tattoos."

Economic trend lines, for now, favoring Obama

(AP) ? For the past year, as the presidential election unfolded, President Barack Obama confronted a dizzying swell of economic news ? hiring up, hiring down, a euro crisis abroad, seesawing gasoline prices at the pump, foreclosures dragging down home values.

Six weeks before the election, those highs and lows are merging into a straighter line which, while below optimum performance, is moving in a positive direction for the country and for the president in his contest with Republican rival Mitt Romney.

Consumer confidence is at its highest level since February. Home values are up and, more important in the election season, housing prices in 20 major cities, many of them in battleground states, rose in July. Despite recent declines, the stock market has been on an upswing, adding value to Americans' 401(k) retirement plans.

Improving consumer confidence is certainly a positive sign for Obama, who has faced a slow economic recovery and a stubbornly high unemployment rate that has remained above 8 percent since virtually the start of his presidency. The consumer confidence index, as measured by The Conference Board, jumped from 61.3 for August to 70.3 for September, though it remains well below 90, the level that is thought to signify a healthy economy.

The numbers track with recent public opinion polls showing that while a majority of Americans say the country is heading in the wrong direction, an increasing number say the country is on the right path. The rising optimism also coincides with polls showing Obama opening leads in some crucial swing states, including all-important Ohio.

If Obama's advantage holds through Election Day, September may be remembered as a pivotal month when political and economic attitudes began to gel.

A weak recovery still makes the economy vulnerable, and public opinion can still change during the critical month of October. Three debates next month between Obama and Romney have the potential of shaking up the race. And the stock market showed its fickleness Tuesday with its worst sell-off since June after a Federal Reserve official cast doubt on the effectiveness of the central bank's recent economy-boosting measures.

But with early voting already under way in some states and with a shrinking number of persuadable voters, Obama aides see a favorable political landscape despite Romney's focus on sluggish growth.

Obama advisers have long argued that despite the economy's weak performance, Obama's re-election hopes rested on a positive trend line. Indeed, Obama has been running an ad since the Democratic convention earlier this month that points to private sector job growth even as it acknowledges "we're not there yet."

"The economy is perceived in relative rather than absolute terms," said St. Louis University political scientist and pollster Ken Warren.

Romney aides argue that their bottom-line argument ? that the country cannot afford another four years of Obama ? remains a winning message that can still resonate with undecided voters.

While the confidence accrues to the president's benefit, consumer attitudes are more a reflection of their economic perceptions than they are of presidential approval. What's more, studies of the relationship between politics and consumer confidence show that falling confidence hurts a president's approval rating more than rising confidence helps.

If the president can benefit, pollsters say Democrats and Republicans seeking re-election in tough contests might also profit from improving economic indicators.

"It would help all incumbents because people are less angry," Warren said.

The rise in confidence comes as the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller index showed that national home prices rose 1.2 percent in July compared with a year ago, increasing home equity and, by extension, the perception of personal wealth.

"People pick up on that very quickly," said Rob Shapiro, an economist and former adviser to President Bill Clinton. "They're no longer getting poor every month. So people think, 'OK, we are on a better path, even if we're proceeding on it a lot more slowly than I expected or hoped.'"

Significantly, prices are rising in many large cities in swing states such as Florida, Colorado, Michigan and North Carolina. Prices have risen 3.6 percent in Tampa, Fla., in the past year, for example. And they're up 5.4 percent in Denver, 6.2 percent in Detroit and 2.2 percent in Charlotte, N.C.

Still, Obama is bucking trends. Unemployment stands at 8.1 percent, and no president has been re-elected with unemployment above 8 percent since the Great Depression. Despite improving public attitudes, an Associated Press-GfK poll this month found 52 percent of likely voters said the country was moving in the wrong direction.

"Going from absolutely horrible to really, really bad is not exactly an endorsement of an incumbent president's record," Republican pollster Whit Ayres said. "We're a long way from measures that show the American people have confidence in the direction of the economy."

Shapiro concedes that the politics are confounding. A Washington Post poll out Tuesday showed Obama leading Romney among likely voters in Ohio, 52 to 44 percent. The president also had a slight edge in Florida, 51 to 47 percent among those most likely to vote.

"We have a president who is leading in a very convincing way despite economic numbers that suggest that he should either be losing or just hanging on, and he's not just hanging on," Shapiro said.

The Race Between Malware and Antivirus Software | Automation ...

Keeping your antivirus software up to date is essential to safeguard your computer against malware and virus attacks, right? A recent article published by MIT?s Technology Review says that it may not be as essential as you think. Your computer may be more prone to attacks than you may like to think.

Antivirus Software: Unreliable?

The antivirus software that we have paid for and long depended on to safeguard our information may not be effective. The technology is running a race with malware programs and malware is winning. More sophisticated and tricky to detect malware comes out every day and this is very concerning to those of us who access the Internet on a daily bases.

Burned by Flame

The Technology Review story focuses on Flame, probably the most complicated examples of malware ever discovered. According to the story, Flame has been copying documents and making recordings of audio, keystrokes, network traffic and Skype calls and taking screenshots of all this activity from the computers it has corrupted. What?s the worst part? Flame has been doing this for at least two years, according to the Technology Review story. And throughout this time, not a single piece of security software discovered this extremely clever bit of malware.

An Industry Under Siege

Wouldn?t it be nice if Flame was the only malware that could get by antivirus software? Unfortunately, this is not the case. There are quite a few that are more than difficult to detect and as soon as antivirus software gets upgraded, malware is developed that challenges it even more. This does not mean you ought not take all measures available to protect your computer, like keeping your antivirus software up to date. You must just be aware that there are viruses out there that may slip through. Hopefully the antivirus industry will eventually catch up with the development of viruses and malware.

Occupational Therapy in the Military | Mom's Education Sites

?
?
As America withdraws troops from Afghanistan and the Middle East, we are seeing more and more wounded soldiers returning home. This is because the wars in the Middle East have been fought mostly on the ground, and casualties and battlefield injuries have been the norm. Occupational therapists are responsible for teaching wounded veterans how to live long and productive lives in spite of their injuries and disabilities. A military occupational therapy salary is somewhat lower than those who deal mostly with private clients, however their benefits package is much more comprehensive. They enjoy greater health coverage for themselves and their families. Also the military has a history of paying for continuing education, which is something that all occupational therapists and occupational therapist assistants need to maintain in order to keep up their certifications.

Feeling guilty versus feeling angry: Who can tell the difference?

ScienceDaily (Sep. 24, 2012) ? When you rear-end the car in front of you at a stoplight, you may feel a mix of different emotions such as anger, anxiety, and guilt. The person whose car you rear-ended may feel angered and frustrated by your carelessness, but it's unlikely that he'll feel much guilt.

The ability to identify and distinguish between negative emotions helps us address the problem that led to those emotions in the first place. But while some people can tell the difference between feeling angry and guilty, others may not be able to separate the two. Distinguishing between anger and frustration is even harder.

In a study forthcoming in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, psychological scientist Emre Demiralp of the University of Michigan and his colleagues hypothesized that clinically depressed people would be less able to discriminate between different types of negative emotions compared to healthy individuals. Clinically depressed people often experience feelings of sadness, anger, fear, or frustration that interfere with everyday life.

"It is difficult to improve your life without knowing whether you are sad or angry about some aspect of it," says Demiralp. "For example, imagine not having a gauge independently indicating the gasoline level of your car. It would be challenging to know when to stop for gas. We wanted to investigate whether people with clinical depression had emotional gauges that were informative and whether they experienced emotions with the same level of specificity and differentiation as healthy people."

The researchers recruited 106 people between the ages of 18 and 40 to participate in their study. Half of the participants were diagnosed with clinical depression and half were not. Over the course of seven to eight days, they carried a Palm Pilot, which prompted them to record emotions at 56 random times during the day. To report their emotions, they marked the degree to which they felt seven negative emotions (sad, anxious, angry, frustrated, ashamed, disgusted, and guilty) and four positive emotions (happy, excited, alert, and active) on a scale from one to four.

Demiralp and his colleagues looked at participants' tendency to give multiple emotions (e.g., disgusted and frustrated) similar rankings at a given point in time. According to their methodology, the more two emotions were reported together the less the person differentiated between these emotions.

The researchers found that clinically depressed people had less differentiated negative emotions than those who were healthy, supporting their hypothesis. Notably, they did not find the same difference between groups for positive emotions -- people with and without diagnosed clinical depression were equally able to differentiate between positive emotions. It is possible that people who are clinically depressed differentiate more between positive emotions as a coping mechanism.

Demiralp and his colleagues argue that the procedure used in the study to record emotions may be particularly useful in studying the emotional experience of clinically depressed people, paving the way for more treatment and therapy options in the future.

"Our results suggest that being specific about your negative emotions might be good for you," says Demiralp. "It might be best to avoid thinking that you are feeling generally bad or unpleasant. Be specific. Is it anger, shame, guilt or some other emotion? This can help you circumvent it and improve your life. It is one of our overarching goals to investigate approaches for facilitating this kind of emotional intelligence at a large scale in the population."

Internet Marketing Affiliate Program ? The Means to a Steady Income

Do you know that many people around the world are very optimistic about their chances of making money through internet marketing affiliate programs? This is simply because doing this would give you the option of earning a comfortable living from the confines of your home. The basic idea behind almost every internet marketing affiliate program is that you make commissions depending on the sales or traffic generated through you, and, based on my experience, this makes it important for you to choose a good affiliate program.

Since choosing a good internet marketing affiliate program can be quite a daunting task, you can always turn to a professional for help. Getting in touch with a good internet marketing institute, for example, is a good way to acquire the knowledge that is required to excel in this field. Remember that since the competition in this field can be fierce, taking help from a certified internet marketing institute can make all the difference. And if I had known this sooner, I would surely have saved myself a lot of stress.

After all, a good internet marketing institute would guide you through the various aspects that are involved in choosing a good internet marketing affiliate program, and these, amongst other things, would include giving you information about various internet affiliate marketing companies and individual internet affiliate enterprises (essential information if you hope to succeed).

The Difference: The main difference between these two is that while an internet affiliate marketing company would have a number of advertisers as a part of its network and could provide you with ads of various businesses; an individual affiliate enterprise would run its own marketing program, wherein you would have to approach the business in question to become an affiliate marketer. In the first scenario, the business that you advertise for would pay the affiliate marketing company in question, which in turn would pay you. In the second scenario, you would get paid directly by the business in question.

Other Aspects: In helping you find a good internet marketing affiliate program, some of the other aspects that an internet marketing institute should ideally delve into include explaining how different programs use different commission structures, how some programs have a requirement of a minimum amount of revenue to be generated by an affiliate before making pay-outs, etc. When I first found out about all this, my initial reaction was that of being dumbstruck.

So when it comes to figuring out which internet marketing affiliate program to sign up with, do know that there is plenty of help that is easily available. Also, you always have the option of going through other reliable and helpful online resources that can be found for free.

17 Chinese trapped in 2 coal mine accidents

Chinese state media say two coal mine accidents have trapped 17 people underground.

The official Xinhua News Agency says a fire broke out Sunday in a mine in northeast Heilongjiang province, trapping 11. Two other people working in the mine were lifted out.

Xinhua says the mine's operating license had expired three weeks earlier and the county government is blaming illegal production for the accident.

Another mine in the same province was flooded on Saturday, trapping six miners.

Rescue efforts are under way.

China has the world's deadliest coal mining industry. Safety improvements have reduced deaths in recent years, but safety rules are often ignored and accidents are still common.

Kyle Washington to N.C. State; Clark to Virginia Tech

?

Kyle Washington is off the board.

The 6-foot-9, 215-pound power forward from Brewster (N.H.) Academy committed to N.C. State Sunday morning during an official visit.

He also considered Ohio State, Washington and Iowa State.

?Yes, I did,? he told SNY.tv by phone. ?Just the coaching staff, a litle bit of new and old school. Larry Farmer, Coach Orlando [Early], Coach [Mark] Gottfried, all those guys are great.

?It?s an opportunity for me to come in and play and come in an make a difference on the team. And?me being able to be in a great conference. This conference [the ACC] is is going to be off the charts for the next few years.?

Washington will play the four at N.C. State beginning in 2013.

?I?m playing the face-up four,? he said. ?I?ll play the four down there and I?ll play on the elbow. I?ll do some wing things.

?They play through the system. They want their players to be versatile. I try to picture myself as versatile and work hard for that title every day. That?s one of the things that coach Gottfried wanted me to do.?

Brewster coach Jason?Smith recently raved about Washington to SNY.tv.

?He?s a lot better than people realize,? Smith said. ?We?ve been fortunate to have had some talented bigs over the years at Brewster. Kyle is right on par to where they are. He?s skilled in the post, he?s got excellent footwork.

?I think he can play really anywhere he wants. I?m excited to coach him. He?s been an excellent leader, vocal, positive, he works hard. He?ll definitely be one of our captains this year. He can play really anywhere he would like to.?

CLARK TO VIRGINIA TECH

Donte Clark, a 6-5, 175-pound point guard from Hargrave Military, pledged to Virginia Tech on Sunday.

?I felt like it was a good fit,? he told SNY.tv. ?They got a good coaching staff, pretty cool.?

Clark also considered Miami, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss.

At 6-5, the Tech staff likes that he has the size to play point or two guard.

?I?ll probably be playing the point,? he said. ?I can play at a fast pace like I usually do, get my team going, score points if we need it and play good defense.?

Gonzalez wins 20th for Nationals

By HOWARD FENDRICH

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 5:12 p.m. ET Sept. 22, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) - Waking up early during the offseason back home in Florida, Gio Gonzalez and his personal trainer would consult a workout program tucked away in a folder labeled "Project 20."

As in 20 victories, a milestone number for a pitcher, even in this age of newfangled statistics.

Gonzalez became the majors' first 20-game winner of 2012, and the first pitcher for a Washington baseball team with 200 strikeouts since Walter Johnson in 1916, taking a shutout into the sixth inning Saturday to help the Nationals close in on their first NL East title by beating the Milwaukee Brewers 10-4.

"In a way, you kind of smile about it, because we finally reached our goal," Gonzalez said, standing in front of a locker sporting seven $20 bills presumably donated by teammates to mark the occasion, "and now it's time to change it up and continue to try and get better goals and higher goals."

Ryan Zimmerman and Ian Desmond each hit a three-run homer off former Nationals pitcher Livan Hernandez in the fourth inning, and Washington stopped Milwaukee's six-game winning streak. The Brewers fell to 2 1/2 games behind St. Louis for an NL wild-card berth.

"I don't feel like we have to win every single game the rest of the season - I don't feel that - but I tell you what: We better win most of them or almost all of them," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said.

Owners of baseball's best record, the Nationals already are assured of postseason play, and Gonzalez (20-8, 2.84 ERA) is a big reason.

"It doesn't feel like a 20th win for myself. It feels like a 20th win for the team," the lefty said. "This is a childhood dream, but at the same time, to do it with a team that's in first place makes it that much better."

Other than a bit of a pratfall - Gonzalez caught one of his cleats in the dirt, tumbled off the mound and landed face-first in the grass after a pitch - he was pretty dominant Saturday. He went seven innings, allowing two unearned runs and three hits. He only walked one, and his five strikeouts raised his total to 201.

The Nationals traded for him in the offseason, shipping four prospects to the Oakland Athletics, then signing Gonzalez to a $42 million, five-year deal.

"He's always had the stuff," Zimmerman said.

With one out in the seventh, Gonzalez lost his footing while throwing a pitch that sailed to the backstop on the fly. Gonzalez stayed down on his belly for a few seconds, his arms and legs splayed, before getting up. Eventually, a team trainer, manager Davey Johnson and some smiling teammates went out to check on Gonzalez.

"Oh, it was hilarious. I asked him ... `Are you hurt?' And he said `No, my feelings are hurt a little bit.' So we got a kick out of it," said Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche, who tied a career high with his 32nd homer.

Joked Desmond: "I'm just glad he didn't mess up his hair."

When Gonzalez stepped back on the mound, he tipped his cap, and the sellout crowd of 40,493 roared. They gave a standing ovation when he walked to the dugout two outs later, his afternoon done. Gonzalez later got a bit hug from Nationals pitching coach Steve McCatty.

Zimmerman (who hit his 23rd homer), Desmond (24th) and LaRoche are other significant parts of the first major league team in the nation's capital to head to the postseason in 79 years. Washington's victory lowered its magic number for clinching a division championship to six, with second-place Atlanta in action at Philadelphia later Saturday.

Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta (2-1) lasted only 2 2-3 innings, giving up three runs and five hits, along with four walks and a wild pitch.

"He really couldn't get comfortable," Roenicke said. "The mound's a little bit different, and he found that out in the first inning."

Washington's 19-year-old center fielder, Bryce Harper was in the middle of several key plays Saturday. He made a running, back-to-the-infield catch on a deep fly by Rickie Weeks to end the top of the third. Moments later, Harper drove a pitch barely above the dirt into left for an RBI double to make it 1-0. Then, apparently picked off second because he strayed too far off the bag, Harper bolted for third and wound up with a stolen base, before scoring on LaRoche's double.

"Typical Harper move, trying to make something happen," Johnson said. "He probably used that a lot in high school."

NOTES: The Brewers will start RHP Yovani Gallardo (16-8) on Sunday, while the Nationals will use RHP Chien-Ming Wang (2-3) as a spot starter to keep their rotation on regular rest after a doubleheader Wednesday. ... RF Aoki threw out Morse at the plate for the last out of the second. Morse tried to score on Suzuki's fly ball. ... LaRoche also hit 32 homers in 2006, while playing for Atlanta.
