Gymnasts Drop Home Opener, Earn Season-High Score - Yale ...

NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? Despite turning in a season-best score on Sunday afternoon, the Yale gymnastics team fell to reigning Ivy champion Penn in the Bulldogs' home and Ivy opener.? Yale finished with a score of 187.900, behind Penn's 191.525.

In front of a home crowd in the John J. Lee Amphitheater, the Bulldogs were led by senior Tara Feld, who finished second in three events on her way to a third-place finish in the all-around.? Feld was Yale's top finisher on the floor (9.750) and vault (9.775), and tied with Lindsay Andsager and Morgan Traina for second on the uneven bars with a 9.625.?

Traina, last season's Ivy champion on the balance beam, had another solid day for the Bulldogs, finishing second on the beam with a 9.775 and fourth in the all-around competition in addition to her second-place finish on the uneven bars.?

Freshman Brittney Sooksengdao had the best meet of her young career, scoring 9.650 on vault?a personal best?to finish third on the apparatus.? She finished sixth on both the beam (9.300, another personal best) and the floor (9.350).?

Yale also received strong performances from a pair of juniors who have been relatively quiet so far this season.? Ashley O'Connor was Yale's second finisher on the balance beam, scoring a 9.500 to finish fifth overall.? Nicole Tay had her best performance of the season on the uneven bars, scoring a 9.525 to finish fifth.?

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Sunday, Feb. 3, when they travel to Durham, N.H. for a tri-meet against George Washington and UNH.
